Why the Downtown Community Plan is a Crisis in Planning

There is no additional park land allotted for downtown workers and visitors.

In addition to downtown residents, workers and visitors create a demand for city park and recreation facilities.

  • If the proposed plan is approved, downtown workers are projected to total approximately 167,700 by 2030, over twice the current number.

  • These workers, plus shoppers, visitors and students would occupy 53.231 million square feet of non-residential space.

  • By 2030, these people would generate additional park requirements equivalent to the demands of all the downtown residents, an additional 248.9 acres.
